Arquà Petrarca

The house of Petrarca

Francesco Petrarca lived in Arquà Petrarca the last years of his life, and is buried here.
Born in Arezzo, he lived in Provence and, returning to Italy in his old age, was hosted as a court poet by the noble and powerful Carrai family of Treviso.

Visiting the estates once, he happened to be in  Arquà Petrarca where, he said, he found “the sweet climate of his Provence ” and he wanted to stop and live there. Today it is possible to visit the house, admirably preserved.
